Diseases Other
  • Retinal vacular diseases, such as branch retinal vein occlusions and central retinal vein occlusions, occur when there are blockages in retinal veins caused by poorly managed diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or other causes.

  • Posterior vitreous separation - Occurs when the clear fluid in the eye, known as the vitreous, shrinks as part of the normal aging process, and separates from the retina.

  • Retinal tears - When the vitreous shrinks but still remains attached to the retina, a retinal tear can form. If left untreated, retinal tears can become retinal detachments.

  • Retinal detachments - The retina separates from the back of the eye causing visual impairment or possibly  total blindness.

A sudden onset of blurred vision or loss of vision can be a very serious problem. Should you develop a sudden loss of vision or any of the other warning signs described in the Symptoms section, please seek treatment by a retina specialist immediately, as these symptoms can arise from many different conditions that affect the retina and/or the optic nerve.
