Dr. Andrew Kimmel

Dr. Kimmel and CarmenDr. Kimmel grew up in Philadelphia, PA, attended Dickinson College on a scholarship and graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Mathematics.

Dr. Kimmel received his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania then completed a one year internship at Crozier Chester Medical Center in Internal Medicine prior to beginning his ophthalmology residency in 1985 at New York Medical College. While at New York Medical College, Dr. Kimmel was chief resident in Ophthalmology in 1988 before graduating in June of that year. He then completed a two year fellowship in diseases of the retina and vitreous at the prestigious University of Iowa (one of the top five ophthalmology programs in the world), from 1988 until 1990.  He is one of only two doctors practicing full time in the entire Lehigh Valley who did a two year fellowship in diseases of the retina and vitreous.

Dr. Kimmel both became a board certified ophthalmologist and began his practice in retinal diseases in Bethlehem in 1990 where he has earned the respect of colleagues throughout the region. Dr. Kimmel is widely published, having been the leading author or co-author on numerous papers and abstracts and having lectured extensively on the topic of diseases of the retina. Dr. Kimmel is also Director of the St. Luke's Retina Center which is the only hospital-based retina center in the Lehigh Valley.

Dr. Kimmel is married to Dr. Deborah Kimmel, a physiatrist (rehabilitation doctor), who also practices in the Lehigh Valley. They have two daughters, Stephanie and Erica. The Kimmel family currently resides in Allentown. Dr. Kimmel's outside interests include sports and staying abreast of current events.

Practice Staff

Our experienced staff assists Dr. Kimmel in providing excellent patient care. Throughout the check-in process, preparation for exam and procedures, insurance processing, rescheduling, and communication with your other doctors, each staff member becomes involved with every patient.
